Stepping on the Rakes

Good piece of advice from @borja.

I went through a similar journey of trying to avoid making mistakes for a really long time and then to finally realizing why it was important to make mistakes and practice a lot to learn to now where I could comfortably admit in a public video that I was not that good at programming in college. It is good to be reminded of this early stage of learning, however, as one could fall in the same trap while learning another skill (such as writing mechanized proofs in my case).

it’s unfortunate but it’s true: it’s the best way to learn. I stepped on some pretty big (let’s say “F”-ing big…) rakes at U Chicago, but have definitely learnt lots from it: both in terms of using rakes, but also knowing which gardens are worth trying to traverse!
