In response to COVID-19, a group of UChicago students is launching a project called “Archive in Place.” Please share this message with members of your community, so we can continue to gather submissions that reflect this trying time. The details are listed below, and all members of the UChicago community are welcome to submit materials to archiveinplace@gmail.com.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Archive in Place: A Digital History of COVID-19 at UChicago is a student-led community archive that documents, preserves, and shares real-time reflections, stories, and digital artifacts of UChicago community members experiencing COVID-19.
UChicago is social distancing, dislocated from one another, and community members’ typical lives have been significantly disrupted. This project seeks to capture how COVID-19 is impacting all of the stakeholders in our community to help foster greater connection through this disruption. The purpose of this project is to capture changes in daily life, record personal narratives, and to map community organizing and political efforts in our community.
This is an ongoing and real-time community-based effort. All members of the UChicago community are welcome to submit archival material. There are multiple ways you can participate and submit your experiences to this digital archive.
We are particularly interested in hearing about your experiences with COVID-19 leading up to the campus shutdown, the process of moving out, and remote learning during Spring Quarter.
Submission Examples Include:
- personal narratives of disruption/dislocation
- memes, artworks, poems
- reflections of the administration’s response
- photos of students moving out
- story archives from IG/Snapchat
