WHOIS Privacy on .in domains

Any ideas why it’s “not allowed” @kartik ??
Is this like with .co.uk where registrars are unable to add it because it already happens by default at the TLD level, or will identity simply be revealed??

Planning to buy on NameSilo as cheapest renewal according to: Cheapest .in domain registration, renew and transfer

It seems NIXI, the National Internet eXchange of India, doesn’t permit it, see: Registry Advisory LA 02: Accurate WHOIS Information in Domain | Registry.In.

No idea about your other question. So I looked up my own .in domain and I see “REDACTED FOR PRIVACY” mentioned in most of the contact info. It does show state and country, however (see below). I am not sure which party in the stack controls access to this info.

Registrant Name: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
Registrant Organization: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
Registrant Street: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
Registrant Street:
Registrant City: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
Registrant State/Province: IL
Registrant Postal Code: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
Registrant Country: US
Registrant Phone: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
Registrant Phone Ext:
Registrant Fax: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
Registrant Fax Ext:
Registrant Email:

Thanks so much for sharing this.
It’s similar to UK, where some privacy is by default from top level (though state is a little too much given for my liking).
Speaking of being from IL: did you see my post about the Facebook IL class action suit?
